| Title: | Ocean Drive Improvement Project; |
| Short Title: | Ocean Drive Improvement Project |
| Overview: | The Ocean Drive Improvement Project involved the restoration of a significant group of Art Deco buildings in North Miami through a public/private partnership which introduced new commercial uses to a key stretch of ocean front street. Ocean Drive was the catalyst for the revitalization of this historic section of Miami and the preservation of an architecturally significant group of Art Deco buildings. Many buildings have underwent substantive restoration work, and new cafes, restaurants, and retail establishments were started, culminating in the creation of a thriving entertainment district. One unanticipated avenue for promulgating a larger awareness of its signature statement architecture grew from the development of a dynamic fashion photography industry in the area, hence the newly restored Ocean Drive appeared world wide in magazine fashion features and advertising. |
