| Overview: | A landmark of urban landscape design in downtown Boston, Post Office Square (with 1400 spaces of parking below) was created through an innovative public/private partnership which benefited the City and the park users at no cost to the public. The project entailed the replacement of an aging parking facility centrally located in Boston's financial district with a 1.7 acre public park and a 7-story underground parking structure. Special care taken in the design effort emphasized several factors: creation of an urban green space which provides visual and spatial relief from urban constraints; access to abundant, variant floral life (125 plant species and 6 highly distinctive trees); and provision of a focal point for the financial district |
