| Overview: | Born out of the riots of 1967 the New Community Corporation (NCC) rebuilt the devastated central ward of Newark through creation of the largest community development corporation in the country, offering a range of comprehensive and innovative services to meet a variety of urban needs. NCC includes manufacturing, retail, educational, housing and other initiatives in the Newark area. This grass roots redevelopment venture houses over 6,000 individuals in apartments and homes contained within 15 housing developments (2,498 units ranging from senior citizen high rises, family town houses, to mid-rise mixed tenancy buildings) in Newark, New Jersey. The Corporation also serves as a source of employment, day care, educational opportunities, social and health care services, and job training. |
