| Overview: | In 1991, Marquette University launched a unique neighborhood revitalization project called Campus Circle, located in a poor and declining area that faced with increased crime and deteriorating housing stock. Allocating $9 million in University resources, Marquette joined forces with area businesses, community-based organizations and residents in a comprehensive approach to transform this decaying area of 90 square-blocks with four main components: upgrading housing (community and of-campus student housing), revitalizing commerce, and promoting safety and community involvement. Selected as the winning entry for 1995. |
