| Overview: | The Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative's (DSNI's) major accomplishment has been organizing and empowering the residents of the Dudley Street neighborhood and Winthrop Estates, a declining, but richly diverse community, to partner with philanthropists, government officials, banks, businesses and community development organizations, to reverse decades of neglect and disinvestment in this area of Boston. It stopped a series of arson fires, cleaned up derelict sites, created a land trust, and built decent housing with ownership opportunities for low income families. The first development, Winthrop Estates, has 36 affordable houses, a town commons, renovated green spaces, and a community center. |
