| Overview: | Swan's Marketplace is an adaptive reuse of a historic downtown Public Market by a local non-profit developer, incorporating mixed residential units and 24 separate commercial and arts-related uses organized around a shared courtyard. The project includes the 93 year old "House-wives Fresh Food Market", Old Oakland co-housing, and 18 units of affordable housing, in a combination of new and restored architecture in downtown Oakland. The project has attracted middle and upper income households to live and invest in this previously declining area without displacing existing residents and businesses. It has provided economic growth and encouraged community redevelopment |
